SCRAPPLE BEER! Dogfish Head - Beer for Breakfast - REVIEW
Today we try the new Dogfish Head offering "Beer for Breakfast Stout"
Sam and the gang over at DFH really do try new and rebellious flavors of beer.
This may take the cake, or Scrapple if you will.
It is a dark, full bodied stout brewed w/ coffee, maple syrup and yes, Scrapple.
For those know privy to the particulars of Scrapple. Here you go.
Scrapple is typically made of hog offal, such as the head, heart, liver, and other trimmings,
which are boiled with any bones attached (often the entire head), to make a broth.
Once cooked, bones and fat are removed, the meat is reserved, and
(dry) cornmeal is boiled in the broth to make a mush.
Putting the exact ingredients aside, from the first aromatic whiff to the last bottom of the glass drip.
This is brimming w/ flavor. A smoky charred sensation overwhelms the pallet at first and carries on for a bit.
But once your buds get used tot it, the sweeter maple and morning cup of Joe hits you.
It really does seem like something Paul Bunyan would down w/ his flapjacks in the A.M.
This is not for everyone, yet, it isn't really only for hardcore beerheads.
If a full bodied, rich and smokey coffee stout w/ a hint of sweetness sounds good. You may be surprised.
This was $14.99 for a 6 pack at Total Wine and is available there in a single for around $4 each.
Seeing as how I can't get a Bud Light at the bar for less than $5 these days. That makes the price more digestible.
It also clocks in at 7.4% abv, so it packs a nice subtle punch to your nose, your tastes and your equilibrium!
This is a killer stout!
